Eiber President Receives RTD Award

Beth Wicht, President of the Eiberhood Association, was honored as the September/October “Most Cooperative Stakeholder” on the West Rail Line. Living in the Denver area for more than 20 years, Beth is extremely involved in the community. Not only does she work full time as a project manager for Mercy Housing, a nonprofit affordable housing and human services organization in downtown Denver, she holds a volunteer position as President of the Eiber Neighborhood Association. As President, Beth coordinates communications including website content, monthly member updates, and semi-annual newsletters. The Eiber team has worked hard to set goals around advocating for the neighborhood in its dealings with RTD FasTracks, the City of Lakewood, and other community groups. “We are focused on moving beyond the consuming West Rail Line impact in our area and starting to explore community gardens and sustainable neighborhood activities to build on the great things this neighborhood has to offer,” Beth said.

Beth is finishing a term on the RTD Citizen’s Advisory Committee (CAC) for FasTracks. “This group has introduced me to many local leaders who are committed to the metro wide build out of the FasTracks plan. This year the CAC went out to different RTD Districts to hear from community members. One of those meetings was held right here in Eiber. "The focus on ‘lessons learned’ in this area and the potential to share these findings with future neighborhoods is very exciting to me.” Beth’s involvement during construction of the West Rail Line has helped keep her community engaged in the project and her enthusiasm has sparked eager anticipation for the line to open.

Bike Path Info

The West Rail Line boasts new bike/pedestrian paths along the corridor, connecting the three counties in which the rail line spans. The project has dedicated a total of 4.26 miles (.38 miles in Jefferson County, 2.20 in Lakewood, and 1.68 in Denver) of bike/pedestrian route, including new bike bridges adjacent to both the Wadsworth and Kipling light rail bridges. Although the bike/pedestrian path is one of the final phases of the overall project, as of September 2011, it is almost 50 percent complete! As construction continues along the West Rail Line, safety remains a priority. Public access to the bike/pedestrian path will not be allowed until all adjacent shouldering, landscaping, painting and fencing are complete and the path is safe for all users. Locations where bicycles/pedestrians cross the light rail tracks are minimized along the corridor to the greatest extent possible. In addition, all West Rail Line stations will feature bicycle parking with racks and/or lockers for travelers’ convenience. The Regional Transportation District (RTD) and Denver Transit Construction Group (DTCG) are committed to opening the bike path by mid- 2012, at least one year earlier than originally scheduled. For safety purposes, the West Rail Line team asks the public to refrain from using the path until it is opened.
